PROF DR WOLFGANG SCHUSTER was Mayor of Stuttgart, Germany from 1997 to 2013. Prior to this, he was a member of the Reflection Group on Europe 2030, Vice-President of the World Association of United Cities and Local Government, and member of the United Nations Advisory Committee of Local Authorities. As President of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions, Prof Schuster founded the European Foundation for Education, which aims to strengthen the links between education and employment to improve youth employability, increase companies’ competitiveness and bolster regional economic development. Today, Prof Schuster is the Chairman of the Council for Local Affairs at Deutsche Telekom AG, Managing Director of the Institute of Sustainable City Development, and member of the National Council of Sustainable Development.
